A season lost and a season of hope?

You had hope, didn't you? Beat the Saints, beat the Browns, schedule looked decent. You had hope. Well, that was dashed pretty quickly. Easily the most pitiful performance of the Big Ben Era. What is the bet on what record they end up with? How much you wanna bet they still finish only 1 game out of a playoff spot and you will kick yourself all summer about the Bengals/Raiders/Falcons losses?

On the other hand, things couldn't look much brighter for Pitt hoops. On the verge of being #1 for the first time. Showcasing an amazing 9 man rotation that appears to be deadly. Biggest upcoming test is the road trip to Wisconsin. Should be 1 or 2 in the country heading into that.

A Tale of Two Pitts

Football -- Disappointing loss to South Florida today, leaves the Panthers at 6-3. 6-6 or 7-5 seems likely with home games to Louisville and WVU and an away game at UConn remaining. If they lose to Uconn, they may not make a bowl game. All the hype for Palko will result in two years of not much after the Fiesta Bowl run. And no one has any expectations for next year; with people already saying that 2008 is the next chance that they will have to make a run. That's too bad since all the excitement over hiring DaveW last year has now been pretty much lost.

Basketball -- On the other hand, the Pitt hoops team has incredible expectations this year. Preseason poll has them at #5. A ton of national TV appearances. For the first time in a long time, a demanding non-conference schedule (at Auburn, at Oklahoma State, at Wisconsin, Washington at home). This team has turned into a legitmate powerhouse year in and year out.
